Let me start by wishing all of you a happy and prosperous New Year, and I also hope you had a very merry and blessed Christmas.
Back on December 1st Jordan Lodge #386 had a joint meeting with Morning Star # 524 at their lodge in Marcellus. The purpose of the joint meeting was to hold a second degree ceremony for both lodges. Brothers Rick Burke and Brad Fetes from Jordan Lodge were passed to the degree of Fellowcraft and are now back on course to becoming Master Masons. It was a great evening of fellowship and cooperation which attests to the strong bond we have and enjoy as members of our great fraternity! Brothers from both lodges participated in the opening/closing as well as the degree ceremony itself and I want to say thanks to all the brothers from Jordan Lodge for their great show of support for this joint meeting. I look forward to the possibility of hosting a joint meeting with Morning Star sometime in the spring if we can put it together.
As some of you may remember from my previous articles, one of the things we wanted to look at was the possibility of new aprons and maybe new jewels also. I don’t know how long our current aprons have been in use but I have seen a picture of my father taken around 1944 with the same apron we are using now, so I know they are at least 70+ years old. Does anyone out there know how old they actually are? Anyway…..W Brother Sonny Schloop has been doing a little investigating as to availability and pricing for new aprons and I’m happy to say that quality aprons are nowhere near as expensive as we had feared, so there is a good chance of new aprons in our future.
Our next couple of meetings promise to be very busy as we need to plan a third degree (the sooner the better), discuss and plan a Brother Bring a Friend night, and make sure that all is ready for our annual Super Bowl Sunday chicken barbecue. Speaking of the chicken barbecue, I recently had a conversation with Brother Dick Ottman and he has pronounced himself ready, willing, and able to once again “ramrod” the affair and already has many items on the to do list checked off, despite his recent back surgery . He’s made of tough stuff!
Kudos to Brother Mike Kinney who graciously accepted the position as chairman of the Brotherhood Fund this year. He has done an outstanding job and, as of our official visit on November 3rd, we are number one in the Onondaga District in participation, something he and we can be proud of. Which is not to say that we can rest on our laurels. I encourage everyone to return your donations to Brother Kinney if you have not already done so. We are a small lodge and may not be able to contribute substantial amounts of money but a high percentage of participation demonstrates our strong commitment to brotherhood.
In closing I want to say Thank You to all of you for your continuing support as I strive to master being Master and I look forward to 2015 with eagerness because of that support.
