DDGM October Word Article

Brethren, I bring you Fraternal Greetings from the MW William J Thomas, Grand Master of Masons in the State of New York.  The Masonic year is in full swing.  Your Lodges are busy with Blood Drives, Meetings and the first of the Official Visits.  Our Safety ID program at the New York State Fair was well attended and received.  On one of the days during the middle of the week, we broke a new daily record with over 300 IDs for the day.  Overall we did well over 3100.  You’ll have to wait to hear directly from the District Chairman on the exact number.  I would also like to give a big thanks and congratulations for a job well done to the District Chairman – W Henry Havener, as well as his co-chairs W Charlie Blood, W Tom Fuzia and Bro. Scott Magill.  Additionally, “Thank You” to all the Lodge Members, Districts, and Concordant Bodies that came out to help and make this program a huge success.

The Grand Lecturers Convention will be held on Friday October 3rd, at Memorial Lodge in North Syracuse.  There will be a dinner prior to the program. If you did not make a reservation for dinner, you can still attend the meeting.  We have a new Grand Lecturer this year, The RW Richard Kessler. It would be great to have a huge turn out to support both our AGLs and the Grand Lecturer.  The Program starts at 7:30pm and will be Opening/Closing with additional information as it relates to this part of the ritual to be shared.

The MWD’s meeting will be Wednesday October 29th, 7:30 pm at Memorial. I encourage all the officers and members of the Lodges to come out.  We are considering bringing back a school of instruction to coincide with these meetings. There will be more to come on this program, any questions, please ask your respective Master, Wardens and Deacons that were in attendance at our meeting on July 29th.

The Brotherhood Fund training was held at the MCC on September 6th.  If you did not make it, please contact W Tom Mitchell, we are looking to have a makeup session provided.  On October 4th, will be our Traditional Brotherhood Fund Kick off dinner.  I say “Traditional”, as this is one of our long time standing traditions that used to be held in the Onondaga District that we are bringing back.  The dinner is for the Brotherhood Fund Chairman from each Lodge and their spouse, along with the Worshipful Master and spouse.  We have a guest speaker as well, RW Dennis Breheny.

We also had 2 Blood Drives in the month of September.  A lot of Brethren got involved and donated blood.  Worshipful Masters, if you don’t yet have a Blood Drive Chairperson to coordinate the blood donations with the members of your Lodge, please do so and contact me with this information.  These Blood Drives are going to continue with many more opportunities to donate.

There are 2 upcoming Grand Lodge Line Officers Apron presentations.  Our Deputy Grand Master, The RW Jeffrey M Williamson, along with RW James Kintzel, Deputy Grand Marshal, RW Christopher J Hough, Junior Grand Deacon, RW James MacConnell, Deputy Grand Standard Bearer and RW Richard Kessler, Grand Lecturer, will be on October 18, 2014 in Hamburg NY.  Also, RW Richard Morley, Junior Grand Warden’s apron presentation will be November 2, 2014 in Delhi, NY.

If you missed any of the Official Visits in September, come out to any of the others as scheduled.  The Official Visits will be very different than any that you may have attended before in the past, and I won’t be giving any more hints, you’ll just have to come out and see for yourself.

The following events are also coming up, so please mark your calendars and plan on attending. Konosioni Table Lodge on October 2nd at Bella Domani, Taft Road, Liverpool/Syracuse Veterans & Sojourners awards night is October 6th,   Morning Star Pie sale kicks off on October 16th, Memorial Lodge is having a Halloween party on October 23rd, and finally, in November, on the 8th, will be The American Lodge of Research meeting held at the Liverpool/Syracuse temple.  This is one meeting that all should plan on attending and from past experience will be interesting.

We have a lot of energized Brethren in our District looking to get involved.  The Official Family and the Master’s of your respective Lodge, along with me will be working hard to get as many of our Brethren involved in the several planned upcoming activities to keep this energy going.  I ask that you continue to focus on your particular Lodge traditions as they once were practiced by your Lodge and see if something can be done to bring them back.

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone for the well wishes directed towards my family this past month.  Your words of support mean a great deal to me, Thank you.  May the Blessing of the Great Architect of the Universe be with you and your family, may he watch over all our servicemen and women that protect this great country of ours.   See you in Lodge and safe travels.
